Sleep Better Tonight!

  • How to wake up rested
  • Your personalized sleep plan
  • Natural cures that work

Now, this is kind of a “weak” headline, but because it’s not a “internet headline”, but a magazine cover headline of the body+soul magazine, it’s probably a good pick.

If you have problems sleeping, and you read “Sleep Better Tonight!”, I think it’s tough to NOT continue reading.

Eat Breakfast, Get Healthy

It’s true! Start with our quick+easy recipes

Now, that sounds great. Everybody likes to eat, and if you can eat your way to health – why not? Quick & easy recipes is a given.

No Energy?

It could be your thyroid. Learn to spot the signs

That’s great because there are LOTS of people with low energy, and if you tell them: it could be your thyroid. They’re like: oh my god, this could be the answer! How do I know? Ah, here I can learn to spot the signs.

Kick the Habit

Satisfy your sugar cravings naturally

Great headline, because the market is very aware of the sugar health-effects, yet… who doesn’t have a sugar craving every once in a while? And I’d guess lots of people feel a little guilty about that, so if there’s a way to “satisfy the cravings” in a “proper” way – I’m all game!

Scary Scents

Everyday home products could be harming you and your family

Again, this one is almost impossible to ignore for many mothers who take great pride in taking care of their family. “Everyday home products? Oh my god, am I using them? What are they?”

Meals That Heal

Power-packed soups

Simple but good sounds.

Get Wild!

Outragous ideas for breaking out of your rut!

I could imagine lots of Body+Soul readers are not exactly “wild gals”, and lots of them probably crave some adventure and need some extra kicks in their life. So this appeal to “let the beast out”, coming from a trusted and known source, is probably pretty appealing.

10 Best Cold and Flu Fighters

Well, quiet frankly, I’d like to know what they are… it’s autumn season here and flu is going around.

Holiday Eating

7 strategies for guilt-free feasting

Great headline – it’s probably on top of their minds anyway during Christmas season, and everybody talks all the time about “how much weight they gained at Christmas”. “Guilt-free feasting” still gives them permission to indulge themselves, but obvious there are 7 (specificity!) strategies that “legalize” it.

Tummy Trouble

What your waist size says about your health

Tummy Trouble is just a good sounding curiosity trigger if you ask me, followed by something that is about everyone’s favourite subject: me, myself and I. And obviously I can discover something new about myself. What’s that?

Stop Stressing, Start Living!

6 essential strategies for breaking free from worry

Again, kind of appealing to a similar desire like in the “Get Wild” headline. The reader’s life is “too small”, “too tiny”, “too boring”, “too timid”, and it’s time to break out of that and “start living”.

And again – 6 (essential) strategies – specificity promise again. Better than “Strategies for breaking free from worry”, because it makes you wonder: what are the 6 strategies? How many of them do I know of? etc.

Train Your Brain

Better focus in 5 minutes

This one is just great, almost has song quality lyrics, and good promise.

Morning Energizer

The key to starting your day off right

Morning Energizer is great, because it’s something that is DOING IT FOR YOU. Obviously an “energizer” is something that gives you energy – you GET energy. So it’s not “How to have energy in the morning”, but it’s almost like automatic.

Find your passion

Our action plan will get you going

Seems to be a major motivator for the readers of body+soul, kind of like “Get Wild!” or “Stop Stressing, Start Living!”. It’s again about finding fullfilment & zest of life. Notice again that the action plan will ‘get them going’ – they don’t need to do it themselves. It’s being done for them.

Save your skin

19 summer sun-care strategies

“19? That’s a lot. There must be some in there that I don’t yet know about.” (And the appeal to keeping skin beautiful is… well, a given with women)

Feeling jealous?

Surprising advice on letting it go

Again a straight shooter – just picking out the target audience – women who feel jealous, and then hooking them through curiosity promise: SURPRISING advice on letting it go. “Why is it surprising? What is it?”

What to do with tofu

6 easy recipes

Now, many have probably “heard” of tofu, and how healthy and good it is – but it’s still something exotic from that place where people have the funny eyes… so this is basically addressing the: oh, it’s foreign and strange and I don’t know it barrier and making it really, really simple.

Overall, I’m not too impressed with their headlines, but they know a lot better what they are doing than I know. So obviously I’m missing something here. I guess coming from the internet marketing & copywriting world, I tend to need more sensationalism and bolder promises to get interested, and the fact that I’m definitely not their target democraphic is a big factor too.

But it just shows how much you can learn about another market just from sitting down, reading the headlines and thinking about which buttons these headlines push for a minute.

    • The Story of My Wife, and Red Fife …
Dear Web Business-Builder, For normal people, writing and speaking are a means of expressing their point of view. • A Disturbing Trend in Internet Marketing
A recent blog post has stirred quite a lot of controversy. It specifically made some stark accusations about a certain number of marketers who appear to be colluding. Some call it unethical. • Five Ways to Turn No into Yes
No is a very powerful word. It’s one too easily spoken, as any parent of a small four-year-old will tell you. It’s also detrimental to effective copywriting and sales, because it’s an absolute brick wall of resistance. The minute a potential customer says no, you’ve either lost the sale, or you have to pull out […]

    • The Need For Long Copy and Other Stupid Myths
Recently, Terry Dean wrote an awesome article, entitled “Copy is King and Other Common Lies.” The article boils down to the fact that the market and the offer come first.
